15. Listen To History and the Prague Museum of Music
This is for you fellow music nerds out there...!!! For a mere 120CZK, you can while away a few hours wandering around and gazing at the weird and the wonderful musical instruments that the Czech people used to play. Look out for the piano that Mozart once played (
IT'S LIKE SEEING A CELEBRITY) and check out the great musical boxes.
"Yes, I'm grade 8 in the musical box, what about you?".
14. Appreciate The Paintings at Prague Castle Picture Gallery
This is the home to one of the largest collection of pictures in the country. Each and every single artwork once belonged to Emperor Rudolph II. Some of the paintings even date back to the 16th Century, and it's an excellent representation of art that can be compared to some of the best in Europe. You can have all of this for the only 100CZK!
13. Explore St Nicholas Church
For only 70CZK you can have a guided tour of the most famous baroque church in Prague. The church has such an amazing and colourful history. The construction of the church took almost 100 years, however, it was all worth it as it's now considered one of the most valuable Baroque buildings north of the Alps. Keep your eye out for the organ (you can't miss it...), Mozart once played on it!
12. Support the Locals at Naplavka Farmers Market
If you want to find a cheap meal or a different sort of souvenir for your friends and family, then take a walk up the river to Naplavka farmers market on a Saturday morning. The farmers sell all sorts of local produce from fruit and vegetables to jams to freshly caught fish. The stalls change week by week, and the product is completely seasonal. There's no doubt that you'll be leaving the market empty handed!
11. Look Down on Old Town Square
Wanna have a birds-eye view of Old Town and see the people below scurrying around? For 120CZK you can do just that. It was built in the 14th Century, so you'll be following the footsteps of thousands and thousands of people before you. Be careful though, when the clock strikes on the hour, a trumpeter sounds out a melody. You don't wanna be on the wrong side of him ;)
10. Go Underneath Old Town Square
So if you did climb the tower in Old Town Sq, then surely it should make sense that you'll get the best of both worlds and visit the underground halls and chambers. Doing so really gives the illusion of walking back in time, as the oldest part of the underground dates all the way back to the 12th century (!!!!). Keep your eyes peeled for the names of prisoners engraved on paintings that were kept down here.
9. Have a Pint (Or 4)
If you're coming to Prague, then you're almost definitely going to be having a beer. Depending on where you go, a beer can range from 25CZK to 45CZK. It's not rocket science to figure out that that 138CZK will get you many
many beers. Go crazy! Taste as many as you can. After all, beer is cheaper than water.
8. Have Some Peace And Quiet At The Botanic Gardens
If you're longing to get away from the crowds, then for 85CZK you can take a wander around the open-air exhibitions at the Botanic Gardens. Walk around the Japanese garden, which invites you to relax and calm down and be Zen. Alternatively, you can purchase a full ticket for a little more money (150CZK), which includes entry to the tropical greenhouse too. It's an excellent afternoon away from the hustle and bustle to be at one with nature.
7. Have Lunch At Cafe Louvre
You can have lunch where Einstein once had his morning coffee for as little as 35CZK!!! Opt for the lunchtime menu (which is only in Czech, so have Google Translate at the ready), and you'll be having a fantastic meal in an amazing place for next to nothing. You're basically robbing the place.
6. Smell Ancient Books At Strahov Library
Who doesn't love the smell of an old book, eh? Part of the Strahov Monastery, the library was founded in 1143! The rooms are beautifully ornate and it's oh so easy to get lost in the magic of the place. If you're a book lover, then I can highly recommend taking a visit. It's also home to one of the best views of Prague, so you hit two birds with one stone for 100CZK.
5. Uncover Legends at Vysehrad
For 120CZK you can take part in a walking tour of one of the most beautiful areas in the city. Vysehrad is linked to all sorts of legends and histories, one of which claim that this was the original settlement of Prague. During the 90-minute tour, you can explore the Brick Gate, the underground halls, Devil's Column and the cemetery. Many famous Czech people are buried here including composers Dvorak and Smetana.
4. Climb Petrin Tower
Loosely based on the Eiffel Tower and standing at the same altitude, Petrin Tower on top of Petrin hill offers not only amazing views of Prague but of the whole of South Bohemia. If it's a sunny day, you can combine it with a pleasant walk up the hill. Why not make an occasion of it and pack a picnic?
3. See Modern Art At Museum Kampa
Entrance to the permanent exhibitions is 90CZK. You can admire the extensive collections of Central and Eastern European modern art that were collected in the 1950s and 60s. This place must be on your to-do list if you have any sort of interest in art. It's got a prime location right on the river. Don't miss the creepy babies and luminous penguins!
2. Take the NEXT Free Tour
Did I mention it's fo'free?! Any walking tour is a great way to find your feet in any city, plus they're all about getting backpackers to meet other like minded people! Pretty nifty if you ask me.
1. Have A Taste Of Heaven At Angelato
Angelato is one of my favourite things about Prague. I have to walk past it every single day on my way to school. I'm going to get fat. They make their own ice cream and not only do they make it delicious and creamy, but they create their own flavours such as black tea, pumpkin and jasmine rice. You might think that the flavours don't work - believe me, I've yet to try a flavour that I dislike.
